Abstract
The immune parameters such as T3(CD3), T4(CD4), T8(CD8), B-cdll(CD19), NK-cell(CD56), CMI skin test were measured with commercially available monoclonal antibodies of human T cells in the cancer pateints of stomach and colorectum who were going
to
perform elective surgical resection to evaluate their prognostic significance. Fllow up informaion was gathered and classified into the stages, recurrences, morbidity and mortality. The preoperative values of T4, T4/T8 ratio and CMI test were
slightly
decreased in the cancer patients compared with benign surgical patients, however there was no significant difference among the groups. Almost all parameters were changed not in early stage but in late stage. Analysis by multivariate methods with
stepwise logistic regression of immune parameters demonstrated that the number of positive rractions CMI tests and the number of B-cells were highly predictive of mortality and that the number of positive CMI antigens was that of stage 4. The
data
suggests that the measurments of several kinds of preoperative immune parmeters would be helpful for judging the postoperative recovery and the prognosis of the patients.
